Starter Guide

Simple instructions to get started in no time with the FPGA4U board and Quartus II:

Installing the driver

Since Quartus 8.1, the usb-blaster drivers provided in the Quartus installation packages are not compatible with the FPGA4U. In order to still use the latest version of Quartus, one should download the usb-blaster drivers from the previous version, which are provided here:

Once you have installed Quartus, unzip these drivers in the Quartus installation path (e.g., C:\altera\81\quartus\drivers\). Connect your FPGA4U to your computer, and when the driver path is required by Windows, make sure to select the path to the old drivers.

If you installed by mistake the incompatible driver, go to the Device Manager and update the driver. During the process, tell windows that you want to select the driver manually, otherwise it will compare the release date and decide to not downgrade it to the old driver.

Note

Some people had trouble to install the old driver on a recent version of Quartus II (such as 9.0). If you experience the same troubles, we suggest you to install Quartus II 7.2
